BIOGRAPHY
Drawing and painting have been part of my life since childhood. That childhood began in Greece until the age of ten when we immigrated to the United States. That experience of leaving behind everything familiar to me has had a profound impact on my art to this day. Mediterranean blues can be found in most of my paintings.
.
After many years of painting as a watercolorist my work has evolved into an abstract expression. I work on both paper and on large canvases.
Inspiration comes literally from everything that I see. Nature is a constant source, and I like to observe it from a very close perspective. I am a studio painter reacting directly to my feelings and memories rather than having objects in front of me. Robert Rauschenberg’s collages are a tremendous inspiration as well as Kandinsky the father of abstraction. Picasso’s abstracted objects have influenced how I simplify shapes in my work.
I added Metalsmithing to my art some years ago and I enjoy working with various metals and semiprecious stones to this day. Perhaps they influence my painting as well.
I hope my work sparks a connection with the viewer and invite them into a deeper dialogue to reflect and interpret their own experiences.
