One hundred works in 5 days? Loosen up and let go!

This 5 day workshop is based on prompts and exercises to get to the core of personal meaning. The focus is on exploration, intuition, and pushing out of your comfort zone. We will be experimenting with a variety of media. Directives include formal elements such as line, shape, space, color, and conceptual ideas with fast-paced timing based on discovery rather than finished products.

The first few days will be focused on the making, using many materials on multiple 6 x 6 pieces at a time. Participants will receive directions, demonstrations, and cues to populate many works and to let go of the "precious" mentality.

By experimenting with various materials such as: drawing materials, ink, water media, acrylics, cold wax, and collage elements, participants will learn how different mediums can evoke different emotions and expressions in their work. Additionally, exploring various approaches and techniques will encourage artists to step out of their comfort zones, push their boundaries, and discover new ways of making.

The last day will involve the artists curating and installing their work in the studio. That is when the group gets to discover interests, patterns and ideas that have emerged in the process.

• At least 100 sheets of 6” x 6” paper.

  • Lisa recommends buying blocks of paper, such as Fluid Watercolor Cold Press EZ-Block 6X6,

  • Buy enough blocks so that you have 100 sheets

  • OR, you can cut your own papers and cut 6 x6

  • Box of latex or nitrile gloves.

• India ink

• A few 2 oz tubes of acrylic paint, your choice of color but include titanium white

• Golden Fiber Paste and Matte Medium

• Brushes for gesso and ink

• 4-6 palette knives,

• One tube of White Oil Paint

• Cold wax

  if you want to use it (4 or 16 oz can)

• Stencils if you like them (we will have some stencils to choose from)

• Messermeister Silicone Bowl Scraper 

  (worth the money )

• Soft rubber brayers speedball

  -  4 inch, 6 in

• Freezer paper for palette

• One roll blue painters tape ½ inch Wax paper for layering between wet panels and/ or pizza boxes to transport wet work and/or cardboard (pizza boxes) for transporting wet work

• Newsprint

• Tissue paper

• Gesso

• Unscented baby wipes.

• Freezer paper

• Razor blades
