Abstract painting is a messy uncertain business. It is a challenging process. Painting is constant decision-making. I will share my approach, understanding of design and color, and my penchant for building layers. I will also share my give-and-take editing process to open our minds to what is possible within the work. The opportunity for discovery presents itself through building layers which we will explore in depth. Allow the constant push and pull of the layering to open your eyes to new directions you can take away with you and apply to your work.
Join me for 4 immersive studio days while we delve into the complexities of making abstract work that speaks to the heart.
What to Expect:
- Meet & Greet - I will offer a brief introduction and preview of workshop as we relax and become familiar with each other.
- Discussion of the elements that make a strong painting.
Process:
We will build collage layers as a base for our pieces. ( Please plan on bringing your own collage papers to be used in the works. I will offer suggestions for this in the supply list.)
We will work with the juxtaposition of collage and paint layers through mixed mediums - various techniques to build these layers.
Discussion and review of the stages as we build history into our pieces.
Demos and Q&A
Final review of the works and discussions of what we have learned.
My goal is not to be precious with the work but to invite curiosity to lead the way. Allow the process to be our inspiration and guidepost. We will work with the stages of a painting (beginning, middle, and end) and avoiding falling in love too soon. My goal is that you take away a renewed sense of freedom in your process that will inform your work.
Let’s enjoy great studio space and focused time to work together through discovery!
