BIOGRAPHY
Born and raised in northern New Jersey, Steven Aimone spent his formative years as an artist in New York City, immersing himself in the offerings of galleries and museums. While there, he attended graduate school at Brooklyn College where he received an MFA in painting and drawing. There he was represented by Kathryn Markel Fine Arts and exhibited regularly at the First Street Galley. Aimone's art works have been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions in New York and elsewhere on the east coast and are represented in numerous corporate and private collections.
For the last 30 years, Aimone has taught live workshops and residencies in nonobjective painting and the creative process to a wide range of audiences throughout North America. He is the author of the widely-sold and distributed Expressive Drawing: A Practical Guide to Freeing the Artist Within. He is also the author of DESIGN: A Lively Guide to Design Basics for Artists and Craftspeople.
Since the onset of Covid 19, Aimone has taught Online Advanced Study workshops to accomplished artist-participants from the US, Canada, Mexico, and Australia. Those online sessions continue even as a schedule of in-person workshops resumes.
Aimone and his wife, artist/author/curator Katherine Duncan Aimone have been blessed to have spent substantial periods of time living and working in two inspiring places: Cortona, Italy and Monhegan Island, Maine. They now reside and maintain a studio in Asheville, North Carolina.
